On Thursday, November 29th the BIA held our fifth Desert Event of 2018, BIA Barriers to Build Luncheon, highlighting the successes and barriers of the development industry in the Coachella Valley. Palm Valley Country Club generously hosted BIA members, guests, elected officials and BIA Staff from both your local and state building industry representatives.
Palm Desert Mayor Pro Tem, Susan Marie Weber, led us in our Pledge of Allegiance while Bill Blankenship, CEO of the BIA Riverside County Chapter, kicked off the announcements and extended our gratitude to all our sponsors and partners. Again, thank you to our event sponsors:

Mr. Tom Kirk, the Executive Director of the Coachella Valley Associations of Governments, covered a multitude of topics including the prioritization of local projects, CEQA Lawsuits, infrastructure deficiency, and the creation and implementation of the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Plan. He dissected the process on the Multiple Species Plan, yet another hurdle for the development industry with its 21 conservation areas and 27 covered species to protect. This plan, a compromise between government agencies, private landowners, developers and scientists, was spearheaded by CVAG under Mr. Kirk’s leadership.
He briefly touched on the planned interchanges in the Coachella Valley such as Ramon and Bob Hope Road and the negotiations on the TPPS (Transportation Project Prioritization Study) and how it affected TUMF (Transportation Uniform Mitigation Fee) and its calculations—a major focus of the BIA Governmental Affairs team in the past few years.
Mr. Kirk concluded his presentation acknowledging the proud partnership with the BIA and look forward to another year of working together.
We also appreciate our productive partnership with CVAG and look forward to another great year in 2019!
Thank you again to all who participated in our 2018 Barrier to Build Luncheon! Wishing you the happiest of holidays and Happy New Year.
