It has been three years since our Chapter has presented the prestigious Outstanding Leadership in Government Affairs award. This year it seemed appropriate that we recognize the Industry’s “best friend” in government, Supervisor Marion Ashley, who at the end of 2018 will be retiring after 16 years of distinguished service as a member of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.
Supervisor Ashley is a native of Riverside County, who began his career as a CPA and later became a corporate executive, banker and ultimately founder of a real estate investment firm. He began serving his community as a Riverside County Planning Commissioner from 1973 - 1981, elected to the Board of Director’s of Eastern Municipal Water District where he served from 1992 - 2002, In 2002 he was elected to the Riverside County Board of Supervisor’s and is currently serving the last few months of his fourth term.
Supervisor Ashley is the only Riverside County Supervisor to serve as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and to Chair the Western Riverside Council of Governments and the Coachella Valley Association of Governments. His leadership has also stretched beyond the boundaries of Riverside County, serving as a Riverside County Representative to the Southern California Association of Governments, South Coast Air Quality Management District and many other local and regional government organizations.
The Industry and each community that Supervisor Ashley represents will be forever grateful for your successful career in public service. In January we look forward to you becoming a member of the Riverside County BIA.
