EPA Delays Lead Paint Certification Enforcement

Good news for remodelers!  The EPA on Friday announced it will delay enforcement of the new Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule to allow time for more remodelers and other contractors to get the necessary training AND for the EPA to get the word out to consumers about the importance of hiring a certified remodeler.

While remodelers, electricians, heating and air conditioning technicians and other contractors must adhere to lead-safe work practices, including special equipment filters and a ban on open flames, the EPA will not take enforcement action against firms that have been unable to obtain certification until October 1 of this year.

Individual contractors must apply to enroll in a training class by September 30 and complete the training by December 31, 2010.

If you are a Southern California remodeler or contractor and have not received your certification on the new RRP Rule, there is still time to enroll in the Building Industry Association of Southern California's classes. Please register early! These classes have limited enrollment and are already selling out!
