RANDALL RICHARDS, RELIABLE WHOLESALE LUMBER

BIA welcomes Randall as one of our newest 2018 Board Members for Riverside County Chapter. Randall C. Richards grew up in the San Fernando Valley and moved to Huntington Beach at the age of 18.  While attending Goldenwest College, he secured a job at Reliable Wholesale Lumber, Inc. in Huntington Beach, in the maintenance department, sweeping the yard.  He quickly moved up the ranks and performed the duties of all the various yard positions, ending up as a Forklift Driver.  In 1978, he decided to take a huge pay cut and take a position inside the office as an Estimator.  In 1982, he earned a degree in Computer Science, in 1988 he was promoted to Operations Manager, and in 1994 he was given the title of Vice President of Operations.

His current position is Executive Vice President of Operations and Sales. 2018 marks his 42nd year at Reliable Wholesale Lumber!

Randy maintains a positive attitude, is always looking toward the future, and constantly explores ways that the company can continuously improve in order to satisfy our customer’s needs. When others might say “NO, it cannot be done”, Randy says “YES” first and works out the details later. He strives to motivate his team members to do the best job possible in all facets of the company, from the employees that work in the yard to the Executive Committee. He is a problem solver.  When there is a challenge he always rises to the challenge, makes things happen, and gets the job done.  A recent example is a transportation shortage that would have precluded us from delivering materials to our customer’s jobsites.  Randy worked out a creative solution and not one of our customers ever knew there was a problem.

Through Randy’s efforts, Reliable Wholesale Lumber has been a major sponsor for a significant number of events hosted by Builders and the BIA in San Diego, Riverside, Orange County and Los Angeles/Ventura County Chapters. His involvement with BIA Southern California has been unparallel.

Lennar Diaper Drive:  Randy purchased and delivered a truckload of diapers donated by Reliable Wholesale Lumber every year from 2013 through 2017 to help Lennar meet their goals to benefit Orangewood Home.  He also manages the logistics of collecting, packaging, transporting and distributing the donated diapers.

Randy has been a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Fullerton for over 20 years.  He donates several hours every month on patrol and well as SWAT callouts and training. He received a “Distinguished Service Certificate” at the Promotional and Awards Ceremony on June 5, 2014.   This was the highest honor bestowed upon an officer at the event.  He was also recognized for his achievement by the Fullerton City Council and the County of Orange at their meeting on August 19, 2014, and in 2015 he received the Fullerton Police Officers Association Volunteer of the Year Award. He formed and is currently the President of a 501-C3 Non-Profit foundation for Orange County called “Friends of North County SWAT Foundation”.  The goal is to raise money to purchase the latest and greatest in Protective gear for the SWAT members in Orange County.  They have held various fund raising events including an annual Golf Tournament.

Randy is an “Avocado Rancher” boasting 113 avocado trees at his home in Fallbrook.  He also enjoys his 30 plus chickens, 1 turkey, 4 dogs, and a giant tortoise.

Randy has been married to Kimberly Richards for 36 Years.  He has three sons, all of which are Eagle Scouts.  Randy was a very active Scout leader for 15 years while his sons were growing up, participating in local and district wide campouts and events. He was a Scoutmaster for an Orange County Troop that attended the National Jamboree in 2001 and 2005.  He also conducted NRA Certified Firearms Training for the scouts and other groups.  Reliable Wholesale Lumber has provided donated material for countless Eagle Scout Projects throughout Southern California for the last 20 years.
