Greetings Members & Associates,

As this will be my last message to you all as your outgoing President, I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to all the members and to the BIA staff for all that we have accomplished as an organization this year. It has been a very eventful and challenging year; the Riverside County Chapter of the BIA has made great strides in almost every aspect of our operations, from program and events to government affairs and political advocacy.

One of the most significant accomplishments the building industry has had this year is the successful campaign for the passage of Proposition 51. This statewide bond measure will ensure that homebuilders’ school fees will not triple as was the fear throughout the community.  It was only due to our members’ generous support that we were able to mount an effective campaign.  To all those that contributed to the effort, whether financially or by spreading the word, I sincerely thank you.

Additionally, the government affairs team successfully advocated for our industry and limited fee increases on several occasions throughout the year. Our political engagement culminated at the General Election where a vast majority of the candidates we endorsed won their elections.  The relationships that were formed or reaffirmed with these elected officials will ensure that our industry has a place at the table during all negotiations and discussions that take place at the local level in the coming years.

In regards to programs and events, the Riverside Chapter has once again set the gold standard.  From our golf tournaments to our wine gala, all of our events were huge successes. The same can be said for our Installation and Awards Dinner, which went off in fantastic fashion. Year after year, I have seen the membership and staff come together to pull off some of the most enjoyable, as well as profitable, events.

I want to wish our incoming President, Jeff Clemens, the best of luck in the year ahead. I am confident that under his leadership the Riverside Chapter will continue to thrive. There are still challenges ahead, but there are also many great opportunities. I will remain an active part of this fantastic team and do my best to ensure continued success for our industry and its partners. Keep up the great work and thank you all for your support over the past year.

Sincerely,

Leonard Miller, President
Building Industry Association of Southern California
Riverside County Chapter
