LAC Event Wrap Up

On Wednesday, October 2nd, the BIA’s Legislative Affairs Committee featured a presentation on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan from Western Municipal Water District’s General Manager John Rossi.

The Bay Delta Conservation Plan entails a multifaceted approach to solving Southern California’s water issues as we face an exponentially growing population.  It also seeks to restore habitat in the San Joaquin Bay Delta while ultimately protecting the farming industry within the Delta, Central and Northern California.  Most if not all resistance to the project exists squarely in Northern California as a result of misinformation campaigns and fear of unknown consequences.

Water conveyance in California has been and will remain a hot button topic until a long term solution is adopted and strong, outspoken Southern California support is desperately needed to rival the opposition that exists in Sacramento’s backyard.  No water of course means no building and there is very real concern that a catastrophic event could shut down our water supply for a significant amount of time.

On Wednesday November 6th, the Riverside County Chapter BIA was fortunate to hear from our own District Attorney Paul Zellerbach.

His presentation covered a range of topics from various industry fraud, case overload, court funding concerns and chiefly the repercussions of AB 190, Sacramento’s legislation that shifted thousands of dangerous felons from state prison to local county jails, ultimately leading to the early release of thousands due to overcrowding as ordered by the court.

Rapidly increasing crime rates have caused very real safety concerns as it threatens to negatively affect our local quality of life and will ultimately manipulate property values.  District Attorney Zellerbach has remained a leader for the industry in his capacity and for the region as he has strategically tackled crime with available tools through these challenging times.

Thank you to our generous event sponsor TTG, the BIA greatly appreciates your support and membership!

Both events were very well attended.

Please make sure to mark your calendar for the next Legislative Affairs Committee luncheon and Holiday Event which will take place on December 4th at Sevilla Restaurant in the City of Riverside from 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. featuring Senator Richard Roth.  We will be honoring outgoing Riverside County Chapter President Dan Boyd.
